In this tutorial, I’ll show you step-by-step how to create the "C"-shaped profile with precise dimensions and 45° chamfers in AutoCAD. This exercise is perfect for practicing basic line drawing, offset, chamfer, and dimensioning tools!

Step-by-Step Guide to Create the "C" Shaped Profile

  1. Set Up Your Drawing Workspace

    • Open AutoCAD and ensure you're in the Drafting & Annotation workspace.
    • Use the UN command to set the units:
      • Type: Decimal, Precision: 0.00.

  2. Draw the Base Rectangle

    • Start with the bottom base using the Line tool (L):
      • Draw a horizontal line of 1.50 units.
      • Move up vertically by 1.25 units.
      • Draw a horizontal line of 1.25 units in the opposite direction.
      • Move down vertically to close the base with 0.25 units.

  3. Create the Inner Cutout

    • Move inside the "C" profile:
      • Offset the base rectangle:
        • Use the Offset tool (O) and offset by 0.25 units inward.
      • Use the Line tool to adjust and connect the vertical and horizontal dimensions for the cutout area.

  4. Add Chamfers (45° Angles)

    • Use the Chamfer tool (CHA):
      • Set the chamfer distance:
        • Type 0.125 for both distances.
      • Apply chamfers on:
        • Top-right corner.
        • Bottom-right corner.

  5. Add Dimensions

    • Use the Linear Dimension tool (DIMLINEAR) for horizontal and vertical measurements:
      • Add dimensions like 1.25, 0.75, 0.50, 1.50, and so on.
